Vardy hails Ndidi’s performance as emergency Centre-back
Nigerian star player, Wilfred Ndidi started as a defender as Leicester City won their opening match of the new Premier League season putting up an impressive in the second half to sweep past Semi Ajayi’s West Brom 3-0 at the Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon. He partnered with Caglar Soyuncu in the center of defence against Slaven Bilic’s team.
The Foxes were expected to continue their impressive form from last season and they didn’t disappoint as Timothy Castagne opened the scoring before Jamie Vardy converted two penalties.
Manager, Brendan Rodgers had no choice but to field Ndidi as a central defender with Jonny Evans, Wes Morgan and Filip Benkovic all unavailable for selection. The Leicester key man hadn’t played in that position in 4 years.
Leicester City’s star striker Vardy believes the 23-year old was brilliant as a central defender.
In an interview with Sky Sports the Foxes number 9 said : “We need to keep going, we need to continue working hard in training, taking it into the games.
“Wilf (Ndidi) has played center half today, I think he’s done really well, it is not his natural position”.
