5 things to look forward to as the Premier league resumes
The English Premier league resumes tomorrow and it would definitely come with its twists and turns.
Manchester City and Manchester United have been given extended break due to their European commitments last season. Hence, there would be only 8 matches in the 1st matchday, with the other 2 postponed.
Here’s a list of 5 things to look forward to as the league resumes;
Can Liverpool pull off back-to-back title wins?
Liverpool had a disappointing end to last season after the brilliant start they had, and it might seem that teams are starting to figure them out.
Their match against Arsenal in the community shield goes at length to emphasize that point as they struggled against an Arsenal that is not necessarily known for having a strong defense.
They should record a comfortable victory against Leeds on the opening day, but there are bound to be obstacles in their way to the title this season.
Can Mitrovic continue with his impressive goal-scoring form in the Premier league?
The Serbian striker has scored 49 league goals for Fulham since his debut in February 2018 with 11 of those goals coming in his first season in the Premier league (2018/19).
In that time only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (54), Salah (54) and Jamie Vardy (50) have scored more in England’s top four tiers.
As Fulham return to the top tier, they would be hoping that their star forward who scored 26 league goals last season continues banging in the goals as they are looking to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
Salah looking to set Liverpool record
Salah could become the first Liverpool player and the second player in the Premier league to score on the opening day in four consecutive seasons, after Sheringham, who achieved this feat between 1992/93 and 1995/96.
No Liverpool player has ever reached four in a row in the club’s league history.
Can Mourinho maintain his opening day unbeaten run?
Jose Mourinho has overseen more opening-round fixtures while remaining unbeaten than any other manager in Premier League history, having won nine and drawn the other one of his 10 such contests.
Can Chelsea compete for the title?
Chelsea have made major moves in the transfer window this summer and all eyes will be on them as they would be expected to make a strong claim for the title. Their first match against Brighton could give us a glimpse of what their fate might turn out to be this season seeing as they have won 9 out of the 10 matches they’ve played against Brighton, drawing the other.
Anything less than winning by a 2-goal margin would be met with scrutiny from the footballing world.
