Here is how Barcelona could line up this season if Messi decides to stay

According to reports from Spain, Messi is about to issue a statement stating his intent to stay at Barcelona. This is surely great news for fans as they would rather have Bartomeu leave the club than lose a club legend.

Let’s take a look at how Barcelona could line-up if Messi decides to stay;

  1. 4-2-3-1 :

With this lineup, the coach can deploy Coutinho in Attacking-midfield where he is more comfortable. Griezmann plays upfront flanked by Dembele and Messi. Semedo at right full back should be given more license to overlap so Messi can play more centrally.

Pjanic and Frenkie plays as the double pivot providing protection for the defense and also be responsible for dictating play, and linking up teammates with passes.

The back four was suspect last season, but they can thrive in the right circumstances, Koeman could restore that stability.

Ter Stegen is currently out with an injury, but his spot is guaranteed when he resumes.

2. 4-2-3-1:

This formation plays to a lot of strengths in the team.

Dembele and Semedo have combined together well when they play on the same side of the pitch, their connection would be a lethal weapon against oppositions.

Messi gets to play in the middle, which gives a him license to play his free role position to the max. He could be anywhere on the pitch, switching with other players on the pitch with ease.

Alba would be happy to have a player like Coutinho ahead of him, with Coutinho a more central player… Alba would be able to dominate the left wing and would even combine with his favourite accomplice on the pitch (Messi) more.

The combination of Griezmann and Messi is also something to yearn for, Messi would be looking to replicate the telepathic connection he had with Suarez and that would be ‘beaut’ to see.

3. 4-3-3

Koeman might be bold about his selections and use the youngsters and he sure would reap the benefits, but I doubt this board want him to do that.

Ansu Fati should be considered for a starting position, if Dembele knows his position is under threat, that could be a good motivation for him.

Puig should also start, Barcelona can’t keep denying these players a chance, he was one of the bright spots as the La Liga ended last season and should deservedly be given a chance even ahead of Pjanic.

Wague might be unknown to a lot of Barcelona fans but I’m sure if he gets a run in the team, the fans would forget about Semedo.

Wague is young, fast, strong, has a World Cup goal to his name and could own the right-back spot for years, if Koeman wants to build his team, he should have confidence in these young players.

A midfield of Coutinho, Puig and Frenkie would be dynamic as the 3 players offers a different skillset. With Puig playing close to Messi, he would cover up for the Argentine with regards to covering the pitch.

Fati would provide pace on the left wing and also a keen eye for goal.

What are your suggestions on how the team should line-up?
