Why Bayern Munich starlet, Joshua Zirkzee should switch allegiance to Super Eagles
19-year old Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee remains committed to the Netherlands National Team despite being omitted from the U21 squad for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Belarus and Norway.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has openly courted the striker to switch his allegiance from Netherlands to Nigeria, an option that is still on the table for him as he is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Netherlands Senior team.
Zirkzee qualifies to play for the Super Eagles through his mother.
If he opts to play for the Super Eagles, there is no doubt he would be fast-tracked into the first team.
He could be celebrating his first national Team trophy in less than 2 years from now with the Super Eagles among the favorites going into that competition.
The country boasts of a number of bright talents that are entering their prime years and he would be a valuable addition to that squad.
Zirkzee might not be an automatic starter for the Super Eagles, but he is more than good enough to challenge Osimhen for that spot.
On if he would play for the Dutch senior team, Zirkzee told RTV Rijnmond : “Unfortunately I am not there yet, but that is more and more. I am already proud of that, so we are taking small steps.
“Whether I think it is strange that I have not been called up for the Dutch Juniors? I have nothing to say about that. “
