Manchester United, Lyon upset the odds in UCL group stages
Earlier this season after the draw for the group stage of Europe’s premier competition I predicted how each group would turn out; let’s see how much mojo I got;
In Group A, I tipped Atletico and Dortmund to make it through to the knockout stages and as expected they did… not quite positioned as I predicted but since they ended the group on level points… that’s still a win.
Dortmund are playing super well this season topping the Bundesliga with a 6-point gap and that form has reflected in their performance in Europe.
Monaco are having quite a disappointing season even after they handed over the reins to ‘big bro’ Thierry. I was wrong about them and they disappointingly ended bottom of the group.
Club Brugge finished 3rd with one win and three draws beating none other than Monaco.
Something I said in that article was ‘Club Brugge will do well to get a win in this group and barring any revolutionary surprise… the most they can do is force Monaco to 4th place…‘ and that happened.
Group B was quite a masterpiece… as if I knew how the sh** was going to play out. Everything just fell in place with my predictions (against all odds).
Barcelona bossed the group as predicted. Tottenham lost the first 2 matches and still fought their way back to qualification.
Inter’s inexperience in the competition broke them along with injuries to key players especially Nainggolan (he was obviously bought for this purpose). Inter didn’t lose in any game he played in (he was brought off before halftime before Tottenham’s goal in their loss at Wembley).
PSV played their role of being ‘weak link’ well.
I was right about group C being tough as it went down to the wire; with Liverpool qualifying because they scored more goals than Napoli.
I tipped Liverpool to top the group and a rather stupid defeat against Crvena Zvezda (Hope you didn’t try to pronounce that) prevenyed that from happening; Call them Red Star Belgrade, they answer to that too.
So Red Star played their part and carried the table. Napoli struggled but wasn’t meant to be. PSG went the extra mile and after a Match Day 1 loss against Liverpool pulled through and topped the group.

If I say I’m a god… some people would say my pride is all over the hills. In group D I was absolutely on point with my predictions.
Porto romped through the group and Schalke followed obediently leaving Galatasaray and Lokomotiv eons behind. Y’all should chill… you can’t start clapping now, you’ll get tired.

Another on-spot prediction, I didn’t expect Ajax to be so impressive but damn, my predictions were on point. Even when I said ‘Expecting nothing less than 4 wins from the Bavarians 💪🏾.’
Group E danced to my tune ending the same way I predicted it would.
Got it so wrong in group F. My only correct prediction was Man City which we all knew they’d top their group before the draw was made.
I underestimated Lyon and although they didn’t do much than beat the best team in the group and ensured they never lost at all, it was enough to pull through.
Hoffenheim failed to seize their opportunity and Shakhtar just needed one win against them to seal Europa league place as predicted.

What happened in Group G is beyond me. I mean, I got this locked down. How do you explain it? How do you beat Madrid (top in the group) home & away in a group with Plzen and still end up bottom?
CSKA need to get themselves checked. Was accurate about Madrid winning 4,5 games (‘They would win 4,5 matches in this group and top place is definitely theirs’).
How would CSKA spoil a perfect plate for me? DAMN. And Plzen… Plzen… mtcheew
Okay okay… Mourinho qualified with one match left. He still got sacked anyways.
I know it mght appear as if I have a personal vendetta against Mou; not at all, I do respect him, I just don’t like his tactics… it is appalling.
If Juventus hadn’t lost stupidly against Man Utd, Valencia would have made it through but God had plans (that doesn’t include Mourinho).
Didn’t try with my prediction in Group H also
