Roma chief confirms Alisson will join Liverpool ‘soon’ in £67m deal
Keeper Alisson is on the brink of completing a £67million transfer from the Italian side to the Reds – which would make him the most expensive shot stopper in history.
The Brazilian is set to jet in to Merseyside on Thursday ahead of his medical and signing a contract at Anfield.
Liverpool had to fend off interest from Chelsea for his signature, and beat the Blues to the punch by getting their bid in first, which was accepted by Roma on Wednesday.
And Roma chief Monchi has revealed that Alisson is incredibly close to being announced as a Reds’ player.
Monchi, Roma sports director: “Alisson to Liverpool deal will be official soon. We haven’t finalised anything yet [with Alisson]. But it is true that the negotiations are advanced and he’s over in Liverpool now.
“When a very substantial offer comes in, you have to consider it. We weighed up the pros and cons and decided to speak to Liverpool.”
Alisson will take over from error-prone keeper Loris Karius in the Liverpool goal and will become Jurgen Klopp’s fourth summer signing.
Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri have all been added to the Reds’ squad – as they attempt to replicate their Champions League campaign and challenge for the Premier League title.
