Not even Messi can save Barcelona this season
I had anticipated the El Clasico for quite some time especially as I was going to watch it at Landmark Beach where La Liga hosted an amazing viewing experience.
Most Barcelona fans were unsure how the clash was going to go but there was no reason why you wouldn’t be optimistic when you look at the Real Madrid line-up. We were always going to be our biggest enemy as it ended up turning out to be.
Messi gave Barcelona fans a scare as he arrived in Madrid with a limp and even tho he went ahead to play the whole 90 minutes he was quite shy of his usual superb best.
Barcelona’s season is dangling at the moment and the club is in a precarious situation. The team’s strength has always been going for goals rather than preventing them and it is in the attacking department that the team faces a huge crisis.
Barcelona have only four players available to play in 3 attacking roles and are fighting on 2 fronts (The Champions league and La Liga) which has resulted in Setien using Vidal as a winger in the last 3 matches.
To make matters worse, only Messi amongst the 4 is not playing in his first season with FC Barcelona.
So no matter what, the gaffer is inclined to start Messi in almost every match if not all. If this was Messi 2,3 years ago I’m sure he will be willing to live up to that challenge, which he actually is being the beast that he is. His body however isn’t quite what it used to be.
The coach needs to prioritize one competition over the other as victory in both is the least likely outcome and failing miserable on both fronts might harshly cost him his job and we’d all be left wondering what might have been.
