Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has been revealed as the only player who defended Julen Lopetegui after he was sacked by the Spanish national team yesterday.
The story was no doubt the biggest of the day, with the sacking coming on the eve of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
It was revealed this week that the former Porto boss had agreed a deal with Real Madrid to take over next season, and Sergio Ramos had even had a part in it.
Though, the Spanish footballing federation was not happy in the slightest and sacked him upon learning the news, which they had not even been informed of.
Fernando Hierro was eventually confirmed as the new Spain boss as they look to get everything back on track for the World Cup.
Though, it might not be as easy as that.
Now, SPORT have been delving into the details and they claim that Sergio Ramos defended Julen Lopetegui before he was officially sacked.
The publication claim that Ramos faced up to Spanish federation chief Luis Rubiales who made the decision to sack Lopetegui.
Ramos explained that Lopetegui should stay on for sporting reasons before leaving for Real Madrid after the summer.
Though, he was the only player who actually defended the Spanish boss, while the rest of the squad was left disappointed for one reason.
‘The rest of the dressing room remained disappointed with Lopetegui,’ the report read.
‘The coach insisted to them, day after day, in his team talks that they should only be focused on the national team and that they should not think about their clubs, even though some had their futures in the air.’
Safe to say, the players were not happy that meanwhile, he was agreeing a deal in Madrid.
