Losing the Championship playoff final to Fulham has hit Aston Villa hard.
Had the Villains won promotion to the Premier League, the club would have won millions of pounds.
But Villa lost the final 1-0 to Fulham, they’ll still be in the Championship next term, and they are now in financial crisis.
It’s recently been confirmed that Aston Villa owe 11 million pounds in transfer fees.
It’s unclear how the Villains plan to pay off their debts as they have serious cash-flow problems.
Central to those problems is the fact that Villa’s owner, Tony Xia, is currently unable to take his money out of China to help Aston Villa.
Tottenham’s low-ball Jack Grealish offer
Villa do have some assets they can sell, including midfielder Jack Grealish.
In recent days the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle have been linked to Grealish.
But on Wednesday, the Sun report that Tottenham hope to take a march on their rivals.
Spurs are gearing up to make Aston Villa a bid for Grealish, but the Villains may not like the proposal. The Sun report:
Tottenham are to make a £15 million take-it-or-leave-it bid for Jack Grealish.
Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy aims to put Championship Aston Villa’s cash woes to the test.
At just 22, Grealish has already racked up an impressive 110 appearances for Aston Villa’s first team.
The Englishman has scored nine and assisted 15 in that time. But it was this past season which showed what a top talent Grealish could potentially be.
Grealish missed the start of the 2017/18 Championship season due to injury. However, when he came back he was one of Villa’s best players, scoring three and assisting five in 27 league appearances.
