Real Madrid central midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been linked with a January switch to Manchester United, according to French media outlet Le 10 Sport.
Despite having already completed a high-profile transfer for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez during the winter, Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to reinforce his midfield line and the name of Croatia international Mateo Kovacic appears to be topping his wish list.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been struggling for first-team minutes under Zinedine Zidane this season. He started only one La Liga match in Real Madrid’s frustrating domestic campaign.
Kovacic was previously linked with Tottenham, but it appears that Red Devils have emerged as the top candidates to bring the skillful midfielder to the Premier League.
Mourinho eyes Kovacic as a long-term replacement for veteran Michael Carrick who is nearing the end of his days with the Old Trafford club.
