Niger Tornadoes coach Abubakar Bala is upbeat of his side’s survival chances despite the 1-1 draw at home to Wikki Tourists in the match day 27 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
The Ikon Allah Boys failed to hold on to a slim lead and they were forced to share the spoils with the MA Boys at the Confluence Stadium.
“We started well. After we got the first goal, we relaxed and lost concentration. They got back in the game and struck the equaliser. That was how we got it wrong. Inspite of what happened we thank God,” Bala told Goal.
“Wikki Tourists is a solid side that likes to dominate possession from midfield, that is why we tried to play from the wings but the plan didn’t work out.
“It is still work-in-progress and we would try to correct the lapses noticed in training. If you look at the way the game went it is fair to say the one point picked is a good result.
“Our next match against Shooting Stars in Ibadan is what is next on our agenda. A good result is possible next weekend.
“We went close in our previous two away games at Nasarawa United and Rivers United.”
“The team won’t be relegated at the end of the season. We will pick enough points to be sure of safety.”
“I want fans of Niger Tornadoes to keep on believing in us. We won’t disappoint their trust,” he added.
Niger Tornadoes are 14th on the NPFL log with 33 points from 25 matches.
