Four away wins were recorded in the opening day of the Nigeria Professional Football League with newcomers, MFM the biggest surprise
Nasarawa United 1-2 MFM FC
The biggest shock of the weekend was recorded in Lafia as debutants MFM FC displaced hosts Nasarawa United at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.
The Solid Miners failed to take the lead early in the game and they were punished when Musa Newman struck in the 18th minute.
Things got worse for Kabiru Dogo’s team as Chukwuka Emmanuel scored three minutes after the half hour mark to double the lead for the Olukoya Boys’.
Ifeanyi Nweke reduced the deficit but it was too late for the Lafia-based outfit.
Ikorodu United 1-1 Abia Warriors
Abia Warriors failed to hold on to their slender advantage as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ikorodu United.
The visitors went ahead through Ndifreke Effiong in the 31st minute but Agbane pulled the Oga Boys level in the 60th minute. The winning goal, however, could not be scored by Ikorodu United despite dominating the second half.
Kano Pillars 2-1 Enugu Rangers
Kano Pillars came back from a goal down to defeat Enugu Rangers 2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Gambo Mohammed scored for Pillars to draw them level after Madu Christian had given Rangers the lead. The homers got the win after Prince Aggrey fired home an injury time winner.
Sunshine Stars 1-1 Akwa United
Sunshine Stars failed to capitalise on a numerical advantage as they drew 1-1 at home to ten-man Akwa United. Okiki Afolabi put the Owena Waves ahead twelve minutes into the game but Friday Ubong responded with the equaliser after a rare howler by Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the 25th minute.
Despite the fact that the away team was reduced to ten men after Godspower Igudia was sent to the showers for a second bookable offense, Sunshine Stars failed to find the winner.
Shooting Stars 0-1 Lobi Stars
Ajia Emmanuel scored the only goal with an effort from distance as Lobi Stars stunned Shooting Stars one-nil at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
El-Kanemi Warriors 0-1 Wikki Tourists
Talented striker Godwin Obaje made the difference as Wikki Tourists silenced Elkanemi Warriors 1-0 at the Karkanda Stadium.
Heartland FC 0-0 Warri Wolves
Heartland dropped valuable points in their chase of the summit in the NPFL after drawing goalless against Warri Wolves in Owerri.
Giwa FC 0-1 FC Ifeanyi Uba
An injury time-strike by Seka Pascal in the first half ensured that FC Ifeanyi Uba shocked Giwa FC 1-0 at the Rwang Pam Stadium.
Plateau United 2-1 Niger Tornadoes
On Saturday, Plateau United struck at injury time to edge Niger Tornadoes 2-1 on Saturday.
In the 16th minute, Plateau United netted the first goal of the new NPFL season from a corner kick.
Four minutes after the hour mark, Kunle Isah bagged the leveller for the Minna-based team setting the stage for an intriguing end to the match.
The two teams went in search of the match winner but it was Plateau United who found it.
Ibe Johnson was the saviour as he scored late in the game to cap a brilliant individual performance.
